Igor Ambrosin (2000) is an Italian pianist, improviser, and composer active in the fields of contemporary jazz and experimental music. His work blends the love for Afro-American musical traditions with a passion for contemporary music, following an original artistic path in which the exploration of rhythmic complexity merges with an in-depth investigation of structure and sound.
After discovering music at the age of five through an early childhood music course in his hometown, Jesolo, Igor soon gravitated toward the piano, studying classical music and at the same time listening to blues and jazz, genres he easily accessed thanks to the records and concerts his father, an amateur saxophonist. This diversity of interests, which has continued to shape his approach ever since, led him to study classical piano and composition during his teenage years, eventually earning a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Piano from Siena Jazz University in 2023 and a Master’s degree in Jazz Piano and Composition from the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) in 2025. Among his most formative teachers during this period were Paolo Pessina, Alfonso Santimone, and Benoît Delbecq.
Primarily active as a bandleader, his most recent project is the Igor Ambrosin Trio, an international band featuring Jonathan Ho on double bass and live electronics, and Pierre Hurty on drums. With this group, Igor will record and release his debut album in 2026. The trio’s repertoire, entirely composed by himself, fully expresses his current artistic research, focused on the investigation of complex rhythmic structures and their relationship to collective improvisation and to the electronic manipulation of acoustic sound. At the same time, Igor is developing Second Life, a multidisciplinary performance in collaboration with illustrator and graphic designer Anna Bonomi, which will premiere in Rotterdam in 2026. In this project, he works as both composer/improviser and solo piano performer.
In recent years, he performed also with the Raìse trio (with bassist Federico Campanello and drummer Fabrizio Doberti), the Giuditta Franco 4et, the Catma Resident Band and took part in the International Jazz Platform residency (Lyon, 2025), the Siena Jazz International Summer Workshop (Siena, 2021 and 2024) and in masterclasses with, among others, Vijay Iyer, Petter Eldh, and Enrico Rava.
